Derik Holtmann grew up in Bethalto and is a graduate of Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. He formerly worked at The Telegraph in Alton before joining the News-Democrat in 1994. At the News-Democrat, he has covered a variety of events, from pre-school Halloween parades to a visit from the Pope, winning state and regional awards. In his spare time, Derik enjoys caving, cycling and watching movies.
